Everyday Pedal Pioneers

I started my “journey” last year. A friend wanted to ride from Manchester to Blackpool for the Christie. I thought sure, how hard can it be? I used to do this as a child, and they always say it’s like riding a bike, you never forget! Well, I didn’t forget, but my body wasn’t ready! I completed the cycle and was very proud. But one thing I didn’t realise I’d get from the experience was a passion for cycling. As this showed, I was clearly a novice. But that doesn’t matter, I have legs I can cycle, easy!
I started cycling to work and back as often as I could with not a care in the world. Through sun, rain, cold and ice, not thinking, just cycling (and making massive weight loss and strengthening my knees I’ve had physio on for years, by the way). In May 2025 I decided to service my bike at a local chain. There isn’t much in the way of cycle shops in my area, so this chain was the best bet. So I thought. I was hit with a substantial bill. The kind of bill that if it had been a car, it probably would have been a write off. It turns out you need to do basic maintenance on your bike and clean it from time to time. Especially if you’re cycling through sun, rain, cold and ice.
That’s where Preston Pedals came in. I saw there were courses available to help maintain bikes and get them winter ready. I thought this was a great idea. Tom and the team helped me prep my bike and be ready for all eventuality. The kind and personal service provided was just what I needed. Very approachable and not condescending in the slightest, which I confess was a fear before reaching out. I’m so glad I found the gang at Preston Pedals and really look forward to seeing them again.
