Preston Pedals supports people to cycle more often by providing cycling buddies to help people gain confidence and discover local routes they feel comfortable cycling.
The project is co-ordinated by Joanne Westwood. Spin buddies work with individuals or small groups to help them plan their cycling journeys and they ride these new routes with them.
They work with people who can already cycle who want to use their bicycle to commute, for example, to work, college, the shops, or to see friends.

People who’ve got a spin buddy
We checked my bike together and made sure I had all the correct gear, she made sure to give clear instructions and directions and remained with me at all times. ![]()
I learnt how to change gears in advance of hills, to avoid potholes and to make sure my bike was good to go. She also made me aware of how to pump up the tyres. ![]()
