Cycling UK ‘Glow Ride’ Comes to Preston

Preston Pedals is inviting everyone who cycles to join us to illuminate the streets in a spectacular evening ride. We are organising a magical Glow Ride as part of the Cycling UK campaign for safer cycling.  The Glow Ride is on Wednesday 22^nd October 2025, and we’re inviting people across Preston to light up their bikes and join an evening adventure through the city!

The Glow Ride will begin at 5:30pm at Moor Park (Deepdale end), where participants will gather and have a chance to get their bikes checked by Go Velo mechanics, before embarking on a scenic 5-mile route through Preston. Those participating are encouraged to decorate their bikes with lights, reflectors, and any creative illumination to create a dazzling display as the group rides together through the streets.

It’s not just about the visual spectacle – it’s about bringing the cycling community together and showing that cycling can be fun, safe, and accessible to everyone.”

The event welcomes cyclists of all experience levels, from families with children to seasoned riders. Ride leaders at Preston Pedals have carefully planned the 5 mile route to be suitable for participants of varying fitness levels while showcasing some of Preston’s iconic areas such as University Square, Preston Market & the Wallace & Gromit statues, Flagmarket, and Avenham Park. 

Safety remains a top priority, with the group ride format ensuring visibility and security for all participants. The emphasis on bike lights and reflective gear will not only create a stunning visual effect but will also promote important road safety practices.  Preston Pedals ride leaders and marshall will support riders on the night.

We ask people to register in advance through Eventbrite to ensure proper planning and safety management. This will give us an idea of the expected numbers.

Cyclists should bring their own bikes equipped with working lights and are encouraged to add extra illumination for the full glow effect. Helmets are strongly recommended, and participants should dress appropriately for October evening weather.
