We officially opened our city centre Cycle Hub at the Train Station on Monday 21st September 2026.  The launch was organised jointly by Preston Pedals, Avanti and Preston City Council, and the ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Preston, councillor Nweeda Khan.  Around 30 people attended to support Preston Pedals opening representing many of our generous supporters including Preston City Council, and the Active Travel Team at Lancashire County Council. The launch was a celebration of what started as a grassroots idea in 2022 to make cycling easier, more affordable, and to address some of the barriers and in 2026 that idea now has a base made possible by Avanti in Preston.

Preston Pedals cooperative works to encourage more people to choose cycling as a sustainable transport option by making short everyday journeys under two miles, improve access to the cycling generally and to recycle and reuse resources. This includes restoring unwanted bikes that might otherwise end up in landfill, supporting people to fix their bicycles, producing commuting maps, offering a programme of led rides, and running the Spin Buddy scheme, which provides one-to-one support to help people build confidence and learn safe routes around Preston.

We are on a journey as a community interest company aiming to build a sustainable business and social enterprise, and being in the Hub offers a great opportunity to achieve our goals. The Cycle Hub is more than a ‘bike shop’. Although affordable and reliable bike repair services are important, the Hub will be a place where bikes get fixed and refurbished, skills are shared, the co-operative grows and connections are made. Every repair, every bike donation, every led ride and each cyclist supported by a Spin Buddy enables Preston to keep moving in a greener, healthier, more connected direction.
