Cycle Challenge

Preston Pedals’ Cyclists Gear Up

On Sunday 13th July 2025, six determined riders from the Preston Pedals Community Cycling Hub will take on the iconic Christie’s Manchester to Blackpool 60-mile cycle challenge—and they’re ready to roll!

Meet the team: Sam, Fran, Sass, Sandi, John, and Jo—a mix of nerves and excitement as they prepare to pedal from Salford Quays to Blackpool’s glittering South Promenade, passing through scenic countryside, Preston’s historic docks, and the charming lanes of Warton.

For most of the team, this is their longest ride yet. Training began in March, come rain or shine, with miles clocked on the Guild Wheel, Cuerden Valley, and even a few hill climbs to Inglewhite and Whitechapel. The group has been supported by Preston Pedals Social Rides and their women’s cycling crew, the Tuesday Trotters.

From solo rides to group adventures, the team has been building stamina and spirit. Sass and Sam are testing their legs on the Beaverbrooks ride, while Sandi is tackling a 25-mile Ribble Valley challenge. Jo’s prepping with a scenic cycle tour of the Isle of Man.

It’s not just about the miles—it’s about the mindset. The team has been learning how to fuel their bodies, stay hydrated, and keep their bikes in top shape, thanks to expert mechanic Franc Ashcroft.

On the big day, it’s a 6:00am departure from Preston, with a minibus (and bikes!) heading to the start line. The ride kicks off at 7:30am, and ends beneath Blackpool’s iconic Glitterball.

Thanks to Preston Pedals, the team will be kitted out in official T-shirts and supported with transport to and from the event. It’s more than a ride—it’s a celebration of community, determination, and the joy of cycling.

Wish them luck—and give them a cheer if you see them on the road!
